Governor Jared Polis Addresses Trump’s Aurora Visit and Mollie Kathleen Mine Rescue Efforts
Colorado Governor Jared Polis has been at the forefront of two significant events in the state, addressing former President Donald Trump‘s scheduled visit to Aurora and directing state resources to assist in the Mollie Kathleen Mine rescue efforts.
In an exclusive interview with Denver7, Governor Polis discussed Trump’s visit to Aurora, which is set to take place amid controversy over Trump’s claims about the city. Polis stated that Trump’s visit offers “an opportunity to counter the bizarre narrative” about Aurora, which has been misrepresented by Trump’s assertions of high criminality and Venezuelan gang control. Polis emphasized that crime in Aurora has actually decreased over the past two years and highlighted the city’s positive attributes and economic opportunities.
Polis also criticized Trump’s stance on immigration, suggesting that Trump does not genuinely want to solve the issue but rather use it as a political talking point. The governor advocated for increased border security and expedited asylum claims processing, referencing a failed bipartisan border bill from earlier this year.
In a separate matter, Governor Polis has directed state resources to assist in the rescue efforts at the Mollie Kathleen Mine in Teller County. Following a tragic accident that resulted in a loss of life, Polis has been in close communication with local authorities and has deployed various state resources, including a mine rescue team and personnel from the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. The State Emergency Operations Center has been activated to support the rescue operation.
Polis expressed his sadness over the loss of life and assured that the state will do everything possible to ensure a speedy and safe resolution to the situation at the mine.
