Governor Umo Eno Releases N2.1 Billion for Gratuity Payments in Akwa Ibom
In a move that underscores his commitment to the people of Akwa Ibom State, Governor Pastor Umo Eno has sanctioned the release of funds totaling N2.1 billion to address outstanding gratuity payments. This development was announced following a state-wide broadcast, despite the recent personal loss of his wife, First Lady Patience Umo Eno. With this latest disbursement, the total amount paid towards reducing the backlog of gratuities has reached N35 billion since his inauguration sixteen months ago.
The breakdown of the recent allocation includes N1.1 billion designated for retired State Civil Servants, N500 million for retired Primary School Teachers, and another N500 million for retired Local Government Workers. This payment aligns with Governor Eno’s campaign promise to resolve outstanding gratuities, a commitment he has been steadily fulfilling.
Governor Eno has focused strongly on supporting vulnerable groups in society. Under initiatives such as the Arise Elderly Care Initiative, 600,000 elders receive a monthly stipend for upkeep, and these beneficiaries are also enrolled in the State’s Health Insurance Scheme. The Governor also launched the Arise Free Food Voucher Programme, ensuring access to essential food items such as rice, garri, and beans.
Furthermore, educational support has been bolstered with increases in bursaries for students in public institutions, rising from N10,000 to N20,000 for undergraduate students and reaching up to N30,000 for those in professional courses. Additionally, an N100 million Educational Grant has been made available to students with disabilities.
The Governor has also demonstrated support for economic empowerment by converting a N2 billion loan to a grant for traders, extending this aid to various resident communities within the state. Housing projects under the Arise Compassionate Homes initiative and the Grace Homes Scheme have provided housing units to public service workers and marked a significant stride in improving living standards.
These actions and numerous other infrastructural projects highlight Governor Eno’s pledge to improve the welfare of Akwa Ibom’s citizens and fulfill his electoral commitments. His administration’s endeavors are seen as a continuation of his compassionate governance approach.
