Grigor Dimitrov Injury Tennis Paris

PARIS, France — Grigor Dimitrov‘s comeback at the Paris Masters took an unexpected turn as he withdrew from his second-round match against Daniil Medvedev on Wednesday due to a shoulder injury.

The 34-year-old Bulgarian had just made his return to competitive tennis earlier this week after sidelining for three months due to a pectoral injury sustained at Wimbledon. In that match against Jannik Sinner, he was leading before suffering the tear that forced him to retire.

Dimitrov initially found success in Paris, winning his opening match against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard with a score of 7-6(5), 6-1. However, he could not continue against Medvedev, where the stakes were high as it marked his 12th clash with the Russian player.

“It never happened to me, so I think I’m still trying to wrap my head around the whole time away from the court,” Dimitrov said after his win over Perricard. “It was never easy. I just wanted to come out and test myself, give myself a chance.”

According to the ATP, Dimitrov’s withdrawal comes with no further details provided regarding his shoulder injury. He currently holds the 38th position in the world rankings.

Medvedev, being the 11th seed, will now face either Lorenzo Sonego or Lorenzo Musetti in the next round.
