Gunman Kills Gym Owner Diego Isla in Shocking Attack in Mexico City

MEXICO CITY, Mexico – A 28-year-old man identified as Diego “N,” an alleged gym owner with businesses in Cancún and Santa Fe, was shot dead Thursday inside the Arnol’s Gym in the Doctores neighborhood of Mexico City.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. at the busy corner of Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas and Doctor Río de la Loza. According to the Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC), officers arriving at the scene found Diego and a woman, who later identified herself as a 23-year-old Venezuelan, with visible blood stains.

Paramedics rushed Diego to a hospital after he sustained a gunshot wound to the head, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. The woman was treated for an abrasion on her right pelvic member and a cut on her right hand and is reportedly in stable condition.

During their investigation, police recovered a firearm from Diego’s backpack, which was submitted to authorities for further examination.

Pablo Vásquez Camacho, the head of the SSC, announced via social media that a 19-year-old foreign national had been arrested as part of the investigation. According to reports from Milenio, the suspect is believed to be Canadian and was found in possession of a silenced gun.

The fatal assault, which has raised questions about safety in public places, was captured on video and circulated on social media. The 17-second video shows Diego entering the gym, followed closely by the injured woman and a masked gunman who then opened fire without warning.

The dramatic footage prompted immediate reactions from local authorities, who expressed concern over the brazen nature of the attack. “They were hunting him. He was laundering money for organized crime,” journalist Carlos Jiménez stated on his social media account, suggesting a possible motive behind the shooting.

Security forces continue to investigate the violent incident and work to understand the suspects’ connections to organized crime. This shocking event not only highlights issues of security within the city but also raises alarms about the ongoing threats posed by organized crime elements.
