Harrisburg Hosts Fourth Annual Shawnee Sasquatch Festival
The city of Harrisburg, Illinois, is gearing up for its fourth annual Shawnee Sasquatch Festival, set to take place on Saturday, October 5. The event, an increasingly popular attraction in southern Illinois, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the town’s downtown area and promises a range of activities for attendees of all ages.
The festival is free to the public and includes a variety of events designed to entertain and engage visitors. Among the highlights is the “Run Like a Sasquatch 5K,” a fun run inspired by the mythical creature that serves as the festival’s namesake. Additionally, both children and adults can participate in the eagerly anticipated Sasquatch Calling contest, which awards those with the most convincing Sasquatch call.
For younger visitors, free carnival rides are available, adding a festive atmosphere to the day’s proceedings. “The festival is a fun and interesting way to draw people to town,” said Harrisburg Mayor John McPeek. The event not only brings entertainment to the local community, but also attracts visitors from surrounding areas.
In addition to the athletic and playful events, the festival features live music performances and a car show, providing further entertainment for attendees. Another unique attraction is a roundtable discussion featuring Sasquatch experts, where enthusiasts can engage with those knowledgeable about the legendary creature.
The Shawnee Sasquatch Festival is a key event in Harrisburg’s annual calendar, combining local culture with a touch of mystery and adventure associated with the Sasquatch legend.
