Harry And Meghan Helping Wildfire Victims California

MONTECITO, Calif. — The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have been actively involved in relief efforts following the devastating wildfires in Southern California. The couple, who reside in Montecito, have been working with World Central Kitchen (WCK) to distribute food and supplies to affected families and first responders.

On Jan. 10, Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, visited a WCK location in Pasadena to assist with relief efforts. Their involvement has been praised by WCK founder José Andrés, who described their efforts as genuine and impactful. “I consider them friends,” Andrés told PEOPLE. “They don’t have to, but they decide to do it.”

Andrés highlighted the couple’s willingness to help without seeking media attention. “The joy they bring to the people, the joy they bring to the first responders, or the people that lost everything… and to see those celebrities giving hugs and crying with the people when some of those celebrities lost their homes — they could be home, but they are there,” he said.

Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo also commended the couple’s efforts, noting that their presence “really buoyed the spirits of the first responders.” Gordo added, “They want to be as helpful as they can be… we visited with some of the affected families in some of the burned-out areas in Pasadena and Altadena.”

In addition to their hands-on involvement, Meghan postponed the release of her Netflix show, “With Love, Meghan,” out of respect for the victims of the wildfires. A source close to the Duchess explained, “Delaying the release of With Love, Meghan was likely an easy decision for her. I don’t think she could imagine putting out a show centered on joy and hosting when so many people in her home state no longer have homes to host people in.”

Despite their efforts, the couple has faced criticism from some quarters. Conservative commentator Candace Owens mocked Meghan’s actions, suggesting that her efforts were insincere. However, many have defended the couple, emphasizing their genuine concern for the affected communities.

As the recovery efforts continue, Harry and Meghan remain committed to supporting those impacted by the wildfires. Their actions have underscored their dedication to humanitarian causes, even as they navigate the challenges of life outside the royal family.
