Hathras Stampede: Tragedy Unfolds as 116 Lives Lost in Crowded Religious Event
Tragedy struck Phulrai village near Mandi of Sikandrarao in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, as a stampede at the conclusion of a religious ‘Satsang’ event claimed the lives of 116 individuals. The event, organized by a self-proclaimed godman called Bhole Baba alias Narayan Sakaar Hari, saw a large gathering of devotees, resulting in a chaotic overcrowding situation.
Authorities attribute the primary cause of this unfortunate incident to overcrowding, leading to suffocation among attendees. The stampede broke out as people, especially women, rushed forward to seek blessings from the saint presiding over the Satsang, resulting in a tragic loss of lives and injuries to many.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed condolences to the families of the victims and directed officials to provide relief measures promptly. The state government has initiated an investigation into the incident, aiming to determine the exact circumstances that led to the stampede.
Reacting to the incident, various political figures have voiced their grief and urged for respectful treatment of the injured. Leaders from parties such as AIMIM, Congress, BJP, and Samajwadi Party have offered their condolences and highlighted the need for a thorough investigation into the matter.
