Heavy Rain Expected to Disrupt Morning Commute in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — A low-pressure system is set to bring widespread rain and gusty winds to the Philadelphia region on Wednesday, creating a messy morning commute for travelers.
The National Weather Service has issued a NEXT Weather Alert for Wednesday, predicting heavy rainfall beginning after midnight and lasting throughout the day. Similar weather patterns have already triggered deadly tornadoes in southern states, and the same system will deliver rain to Pennsylvania.
Weather experts anticipate that the heaviest downpours will occur during the peak morning commute, particularly after 8 a.m., potentially causing delays on both roads and at the airport. Localized flooding may occur, especially in low-lying areas, with expected rainfall totals ranging from 1 to 1.5 inches.
Winds are also expected to increase as the day progresses, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph along the shore. These conditions may make it feel more like March than late May, with temperatures struggling to exceed the mid-50s.
By Thursday, conditions should improve, with scattered showers possible but the worst of the storm moving past the area. Weather officials advise residents to keep umbrellas handy and prepare for a cool, wet day ahead.
