WASHINGTON – The Washington, D.C. region is bracing for showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday, bringing periods of heavy rain that could disrupt the morning commute.

FOX 5‘s Taylor Grenda reports that temperatures will be cool, ranging from the upper 50s to low 60s. Forecasts predict more than an inch of rain over the next two days. Conditions are expected to clear by Thursday morning, with temperatures rising into the upper 70s.

According to the National Weather Service, another round of rain may arrive Friday into Saturday, but sunnier skies are anticipated on Sunday. By Monday, the weather will shift again, bringing summerlike temperatures and mostly sunny conditions, with highs reaching the 80s.

The Weather Impact Alert is in effect through Wednesday, signaling periods of heavy rain. The latest forecast details include a cloudy night with showers and lows in the 50s, followed by heavy rain on Wednesday morning and scattered showers in the afternoon.

Winds are expected to be breezy, coming from the east at 10 to 20 mph, which will contribute to the chilly-feel of the day. After 3 p.m., rain will gradually decrease to isolated showers that may linger into the evening.

Thursday is predicted to be drier and warmer, signaling a return to average temperatures in the upper 70s. Although there is a chance for isolated showers or thunderstorms, most of the day should remain dry. Scattered showers and storms are likely to return on Friday.
