Helicopter Crash Investigated Near Mogadore Reservoir in Portage County

PORTAGE COUNTY, Ohio (AP) — Authorities are investigating a helicopter crash that occurred Friday morning near the Mogadore Reservoir in Suffield Township. The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) confirmed the incident happened around 7:45 a.m. and described the situation as an ‘active scene.’
The crash was reported by the Ravenna Post of the OSHP, which received an anonymous alert about the incident near State Route 43. Responding units included deputies from the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, emergency management agency (EMA) personnel, water rescue teams, firefighters, and drone operators, all mobilized to assist in the situation.
In a statement released by the sheriff’s office, it was noted that the helicopter was found in the water. Officials reported that Sunnybrook Road is currently closed between Martin and Saxe roads as part of the response efforts. Citizens are advised to avoid the area to allow emergency services to operate efficiently.
