Ed Helms Highlights Importance of Media Literacy with New PSA on Deepfakes
Actor Ed Helms, known for his role as Andy Bernard in the popular TV series ‘The Office,’ has recently ventured into a critical public service initiative. Along with Miles Taylor, Helms has produced a new public service announcement (PSA) focused on the dangers of deepfakes ahead of the 2024 elections.
The PSA aims to raise awareness about the potential misuse of deepfake technology, which can create highly convincing but false audio and video content. This issue is particularly pertinent in the context of elections, where such manipulations could influence public opinion and undermine trust in democratic processes.
Helms and Taylor’s collaboration on this project underscores the growing concern among public figures and experts about the impact of deepfakes on societal discourse and political integrity. By using their platforms to educate the public, they hope to foster a more informed and vigilant electorate.
Beyond his acting career, Helms has also been in the news for his other talents, including his banjo skills, which he picked up during his time at Atlanta‘s Westminster Schools after being inspired by a production of Tom Key‘s “Cotton Patch Gospel”.
