Hempstead Police Arrest Man For Murder Warrant

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — A Hempstead man wanted for murder in Honduras was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after being arrested on Monday for violating an order of protection, Nassau County police announced.

Oscar Romero Murcia, 32, was apprehended following allegations that he stood outside the residence of a person covered by a full stay-away order, issued after a robbery on September 26, 2024. Authorities say he violated the order around 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Detectives charged Murcia with criminal contempt in the second degree after witnessing the incident. He had previously been released on $15,000 cash bail for the September robbery.

Following his Monday arrest, Murcia was processed by ICE due to an active murder warrant issued against him in Honduras. The circumstances surrounding that warrant have not been disclosed by authorities.

“We take violations of court orders seriously, especially when they involve a history of violence,” said Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of our community.”

The relationship between Murcia and the alleged victim has not been detailed, but police noted that he is accused of being involved in a case of robbery prior to the restraining order’s issuance.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder warrant in Honduras.
