High Point High School Beltsville Lockdown Police

BELTSVILLE, Md. — A large fight at High Point High School triggered a lockdown Wednesday afternoon, disrupting bus routes across 23 schools in Prince George's County. The incident occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m., prompting a swift response from local law enforcement.

According to the Prince George’s County Police Department, officers were called to the school after reports of an altercation involving multiple students. Upon arrival, authorities placed the school on lockdown as a precautionary measure. Police canvassed the campus for potential weapons but found none. No injuries or gunshots were reported.

The lockdown delayed the school’s dismissal by approximately 30 minutes, causing a ripple effect on bus schedules throughout the district. Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) issued a statement around 3:30 p.m., confirming that a weapon was reportedly brandished during the fight but not located. “No students or staff members were harmed during this incident,” the statement read.

Instruction continued during the lockdown, and a staggered dismissal was implemented to ensure student safety. The school district emphasized that student and staff safety remains its top priority. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Prince George’s County Police Department.
