High-Speed Chase Leads to Arrest of Deerbrook Man
CRANDON, Wis. (WSAW) – A man from Deerbrook is in custody after a high-speed chase through Forest County early Tuesday morning.
The incident began just after 6:30 a.m. when an off-duty Forest County deputy reported a blue Audi speeding north on Highway 55, exceeding 110 mph and passing vehicles in a no-passing zone.
Upon spotting the vehicle near County Highway S, an on-duty deputy turned around to engage. However, the driver accelerated, turning off his headlights and evading multiple deputies.
During the pursuit, a second deputy attempted to join the chase but struck a deer, damaging his patrol car and forcing him to withdraw.
The suspect continued north on Highway 55 and turned west on Highway 8, ultimately entering the city of Crandon. After crossing Tower Road, he stopped on the shoulder before turning back toward Crandon.
Law enforcement eventually apprehended the suspect in a parking lot outside a business in Crandon.
The driver, identified as 18-year-old Mason Spray, now faces several charges including fleeing an officer and reckless endangerment, as well as possession of THC. Court records indicate that Spray has a prior citation for operating while suspended.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the sheriff’s office urges community members to report reckless driving.
