High Wycombe Neighbors Celebrate Joint Lottery Win of £1 Million

HIGH WYCOMBE, England — A father of three shared his overwhelming relief after winning £166,666 in the People’s Postcode Lottery, just weeks after he rejoined the game. David Baldwin, who had previously canceled his subscription, was one of the lucky winners in the HP13 5SY postcode on March 8, 2025.
David Baldwin, from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, expressed excitement not just for himself, but also for his neighbor and friend, Bob Moorhouse, who also won on the same day. “It’s nice to win with neighbors and other people in the street,” Baldwin said. “I would have been happy for my neighbors but obviously gutted for myself if I had not restarted my subscription.”
Remarkably, Baldwin had rejoined the lottery in December, right before the life-changing win. Bob Moorhouse humorously noted, “I’m glad he did start again because it’s nice to share in this whole thing, even though if he hadn’t, I would have gotten more.”
The duo celebrated alongside four other neighbors after their area bagged a total of £1 million in the weekly Millionaire Street prize. Each winning ticket was valued at £166,666. The celebratory mood was captured in Bob’s sunny front garden as they revealed their cheques together.
“I’m stunned, totally stunned. I can’t believe it,” David said, reflecting on the unexpected fortune. “We can get the fences fixed now,” he added, hinting at potential home improvements with the winnings. Bob interjected with a laugh, “We’ll chip in.”
During the celebration, David and Bob reminisced about past gatherings. “We had dinner on Saturday,” David recalled. Bob added, “We were over at yours at New Year drinking your gin. There’ll be a party tomorrow night at your gin palace.”
To maintain some intrigue, David joked, “We’re only going to tell people we’ve won £6 in case the begging letters come in.”
Baldwin, a Liverpool FC fan, shared his aspirations for spending the winnings. “I need a drink. We’ll get the champagne out. I’m glad I answered the phone now. I need to go and lie down, I’m in shock. I had no idea I would win anything like that.”
His immediate plans include hospitality tickets for an upcoming match against Paris Saint-Germain, along with potential flying lessons and travel adventures. “Because we’re both going to be 60 soon, we’ve booked to go to Mauritius. I wanted to go to America, but maybe we can do both now,” he said enthusiastically.
Nicola Baldwin, David’s wife, chimed in, revealing another goal her husband has. “David wants to buy a camper van, then get up in the morning and say, ‘You know what …,’” she added, alluding to their desire for travel.
Reflecting on the number on the cheque, Nicola exclaimed, “I was born in ’66. It’s my lucky number. I even have it on my number plate.” Meanwhile, she expressed her excitement about growing her gin collection, having amassed around 40 large bottles over the years.
The couple recognized how devastating it would have been if they hadn’t won. “I don’t think I could put into words what I would be saying,” Nicola admitted. David reflected, “I would probably have been crying.”
Bob and his fiancée, Bev Hunt, also looked forward to treating his granddaughters for their upcoming birthday. “We’ll probably go down to a lovely restaurant in Wycombe with our neighbors for a drink,” Bob said, eager to celebrate together.
The ripple effects of this lottery win extend beyond personal joy, as local charities will benefit from a significant funding boost. The Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Service South Buckinghamshire (RSASS) was awarded £50,000. Donna Millar, Executive Director of RSASS, highlighted the importance of ongoing support for survivors of sexual violence.
“Even though we have been in operation for a number of decades, the last couple of years have been transformative for us as a charity,” Millar stated. She encouraged anyone dealing with trauma to reach out for help, emphasizing that it’s never too late to talk.
Other local charities will also receive funding from this week’s prize, which is part of a draw promoted on behalf of various philanthropic organizations. Remarkably, players of the People’s Postcode Lottery have raised over £1.4 billion for charities around the world to date.
For those interested in joining the lottery, David’s story may serve as inspiration, showcasing the unexpected possibilities of a simple ticket.
