Manhunt On Sullivan's Island Hit And Run

SULLIVAN’S ISLAND, S.C. — A hit-and-run crash involving several children has led to a manhunt on Sullivan’s Island. Authorities have urged residents to shelter in place due to an armed suspect at large.

The suspect is described as a heavyset white man, wearing a red shirt and dark shorts. He has bald patches on his head and facial hair. The suspect was last seen on foot on Jasper Boulevard between Station 30 and Station 32 Street.

Officials have closed Jasper Boulevard and Middle Street eastbound from Station 32 to Breach Inlet Bridge, asking people to avoid the area. Police have labeled the suspect as armed and dangerous.

Isle of Palms Police Sgt. Matt Storen confirmed that the incident is related to a hit-and-run crash that occurred at approximately 12:47 p.m. Charleston County dispatchers reported several injuries, although the extent of those injuries has not been made clear.

Witnesses observed a heavy police and fire presence at a park near Sunrise Presbyterian Church on Middle Street. Individuals who see someone matching the suspect’s description are urged not to approach him and to call 911 immediately.
