Newton Township Shooting Delivery Driver Incident

NEWTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A 43-year-old homeowner is facing charges after allegedly shooting an Instacart delivery driver outside his residence Saturday night, authorities said. The incident occurred at approximately 7:37 p.m. on Misty Lane, prompting an ongoing investigation by South Abington Township Police.

According to Police Chief Paul Wolfe, Nicholas Sabo shot the 35-year-old driver, a Scranton resident, in the leg after mistaking him for an intruder. The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery and is now recovering. Wolfe stated that the driver provided a brief verbal statement but offered no justification for the shooting.

The confrontation unfolded after Sabo’s wife ordered groceries from Weis Markets via the Instacart app without informing her husband. When the delivery driver arrived, Sabo’s wife received a security alert indicating movement near the garage. Believing the driver was attempting to break into a utility trailer, Sabo retrieved a firearm and shot the man, Wolfe explained.

Sabo was arrested and charged with recklessly endangering another person. Additional charges may be filed pending further interviews with the victim, which are expected to take place early this week. Bail and preliminary hearing details remain unavailable.

Authorities emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and urged the public to avoid speculation. The victim’s identity has not been released, and no further details about his condition were provided.
