Hood Canal Bridge Washington State Route 104

OLYMPIA, Washington — The Hood Canal Bridge on State Route 104 is closed to all vehicle traffic indefinitely due to a mechanical failure, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The agency announced the closure on May 5, 2025, stating that crews are still investigating the cause of the issue.

In an official statement, WSDOT said, “We’re troubleshooting the issue but can’t yet determine the cause. Unfortunately, we have no timeframe for when we can reopen the bridge.” The agency is consulting with engineers and internal experts to identify the problem and develop a solution.

The unexpected closure is causing significant delays for travelers, as the bridge is a vital link between the Olympic and Kitsap peninsulas. WSDOT emphasized their commitment to restoring service quickly, saying, “We know this poses an inconvenient delay to travelers. We are making every effort to reopen the bridge to vehicular traffic as soon as possible.”

Currently, there is no estimate for when the bridge will reopen. WSDOT has pledged to provide updates as new information becomes available, leaving many drivers uncertain about their travel plans.
