Houston Area Braces for Severe Storms and Potential Tornadoes
The Houston area is currently under a 3/5 severe storm risk as the National Weather Service issues a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for various regions including Katy, Sealy, Brookshire, and more. Residents are advised to remain alert due to the potential dangers posed by tornadoes, damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rain.
At approximately 1:41 a.m., a severe thunderstorm was reported near Wallis, moving quickly towards Sealy. Another storm cell was detected around 2:44 a.m. near Katy, indicating the approaching threat to these areas.
It’s declared a FOX 26 Storm Alert Day until early Wednesday morning with the anticipation of isolated strong to severe storms before midnight. The primary line of severe storms is projected between 3 to 7 a.m., emphasizing the need for heightened caution.
Despite the risks, residents are urged to stay vigilant as street flooding, power outages, and potential wind damage are expected. Following the passage of a cold front by late morning, the severe threat should diminish, allowing for improved weather conditions in the days ahead.
As part of preparedness, individuals are encouraged to download the FOX 26 WX App for real-time alerts and utilize FOX Local on smart TVs for extended weather coverage. With the possibility of 60 mph wind gusts and hail, staying informed is crucial to safety.
