Houston Thunderstorms Weather Alert

HOUSTON, Texas — Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected in Houston on Wednesday, with rain chances increasing significantly by late morning. Officials warn that storms may last through the late afternoon and evening.

The KHOU 11 Weather Team has issued an hourly Weather Impact Alert, indicating that the likelihood of severe weather will peak between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Temperatures are projected to reach a high of 88°F midday, with scattered thunderstorms potentially impacting the afternoon commute.

A Level 2 out of 5 “Slight Risk” for severe weather has been declared for much of Southeast Texas, including Houston, Sugar Land, Tomball, Conroe, Liberty, and El Campo. This rating suggests an elevated risk for damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes, particularly in the afternoon and evening.

Areas across the Houston metro are also under a slight flood risk, with moderate risk zones extending further north and west towards Brenham, Huntsville, and Austin. Heavy downpours could lead to street flooding and water accumulation in low-lying areas, aggravating already saturated ground conditions.

Although Wednesday morning is expected to be mostly dry, the first round of storms is anticipated between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., with scattered thunderstorms likely continuing into the early evening. Residents are advised to remain cautious on the roads and avoid driving through flooded areas, as reiterated by KHOU 11 Meteorologist Pat Cavlin.

“Don’t drive through flooded roads. You know the drill — we’ve done this before,” Cavlin said. The weather conditions will worsen later, and the public should prepare for potential hazardous driving conditions as storms develop throughout the day.
