Howard Stern Oprah Winfrey Interview Context

NEW YORK – Radio personality Howard Stern addressed his rumored feud with Oprah Winfrey during an appearance on Andy Cohen‘s SiriusXM show, “Andy Cohen Live,” on October 9, 2025.

Cohen, the host, asked Stern about his relationships with various celebrities, suggesting that Winfrey might still be an enemy. Stern quickly dismissed that notion, stating, “No, I love Oprah. I follow Oprah. I enjoy watching Oprah.” Despite his admiration, Stern admitted he has “never” spoken to the former host of “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

Stern speculated that Winfrey might be hesitant to meet him, saying, “I think she’s afraid.” He mentioned that Winfrey’s friend, Gayle King, once suggested they should get together, but he cautioned her to check with Winfrey first.

The strain between Stern and Winfrey dates back to at least 2004 when Stern criticized her show, calling for a Federal Communications Commission investigation over potentially indecent content. He has also critiqued Winfrey for showcasing her wealth, describing her as sometimes unaware of how she presents her affluence.

On the radio show, Stern expressed, “I like sometimes how Oprah is so unaware. Maybe she is aware, but I suspect…sometimes she’s unaware of the sort of way she shows her wealth.” He added, “I couldn’t do that. I’m not saying that she’s wrong. We all know she’s wealthy, but…there is such a disparity between those who have and those who have not. And it’s only getting worse.”

Later, when asked if he would interview Winfrey, Stern said, “I would sit down with Oprah. Oprah wouldn’t sit down with me. I think Oprah feels… you know what? Oprah doesn’t need it. I’m gonna advise Oprah: Stay away from me, because you don’t need it.”
