Human Remains Found in Lewiston Bog Under Investigation
LEWISTON, Maine — Human remains discovered in Garcelon Bog on Saturday afternoon are under investigation by local and state authorities. The remains, found by a resident at the end of Russell Street, are believed to have been in the bog for an extended period, according to Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
“Initial findings indicate that the remains have been there for an extended period of time,” Moss said. “There is no danger to the public.”
The Lewiston Police Department, with assistance from the Maine State Police, is leading the investigation. The remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for identification and further examination.
Authorities have not released additional details about the identity of the remains or the circumstances surrounding their discovery. The investigation remains ongoing.
