Huntsville Police Investigate Shooting; Woman Found Dead in Fort Bend County Fire

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Huntsville police confirmed one person was shot on Virginia Boulevard Saturday evening, prompting an investigation and immediate medical assistance.

Authorities reported that one suspect has been detained following the incident. Initial reports suggesting a barricaded subject were found to be incorrect, according to police. The victim was transported to a local hospital, but their condition remains undisclosed.

In a separate incident, investigators are examining a fire at a residence in Fort Bend County, Texas, where a Lamar Consolidated Independent School District worker was killed nearly a week ago.

Fort Bend County Fire Marshal’s Office stated the scene investigation on Rocky Knoll Lane follows the death of Iona Pollard, 52, who was found dead from a gunshot wound. Her husband, David Pollard, 47, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with murder. His bond is set at $300,000.

Both the victim and the suspect were employed by Lamar CISD; Iona Pollard served as an instructional coach at George Junior High, while David Pollard held a position as a safety coordinator with the district’s police department. The details leading up to the shooting remain unclear as the investigation continues.

Additionally, police are investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred early Friday morning in the Hollywood neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee. One man was pronounced dead, and a woman was hospitalized but expected to recover.

Memphis Police reported the shooting occurred around 4:45 a.m. near the intersection of Harrison Street and Peres Avenue. Witnesses observed a dark-colored sedan pull up before shots were fired at the victims. According to officers at the scene, the man died from his injuries.

Law enforcement has established a crime scene and continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
