Huntsville Police Officers Injured in High-Speed Chase Incident

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Two Huntsville police officers were seriously injured early Sunday morning when a woman struck a police vehicle during a high-speed chase, authorities said.
The incident began shortly after midnight when officers attempted to stop 24-year-old Kiara Shardae Burnett at the intersection of Pulaski Pike and Poplar Avenue. Sgt. Chris Jackson reported that Burnett had an active warrant for probation violation.
During the attempted stop, Burnett fled in her vehicle, colliding with the rear of a tow truck. She subsequently reversed, striking a patrol vehicle before officers could apprehend her. Both officers, who have not been identified, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Burnett was transporting two others in her vehicle, including her child, who were able to exit safely before she fled the scene. A vehicle chase ensued, eventually concluding at the intersection of Jordan Lane and Mastin Lake Road, where Burnett crashed into another vehicle in a service station parking lot.
She was arrested and now faces multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident with injury, felony attempting to elude, third-degree domestic violence, reckless endangerment, and possession of marijuana in the second degree. Burnett is currently held in the Madison County Jail on a bond of $117,000, according to jail records.
