ICC Fines Arundhati Reddy for Code of Conduct Breach in India vs Pakistan Match
In a recent development during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 match between India and Pakistan, Indian fast bowler Arundhati Reddy has been reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct. Reddy was found guilty of a Level 1 breach and has accepted the sanctions proposed by Shandre Fritz from the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, circumventing the need for a formal hearing.
Reddy was charged with violating Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This article pertains to the use of insulting language, gestures, or provoking an aggressive response from a dismissed batsman during an international match. The incident occurred in Pakistan’s innings’ last over when Reddy pointed towards the pavilion after dismissing Nida Dar.
Along with a formal reprimand, a demerit point has been added to Reddy’s disciplinary record, marking her first offense within a 24-month period. The punishment range for a Level 1 breach includes a minimum sanction of an official reprimand, a maximum of 50 percent of a player’s match fee deduction, and the imposition of one or two demerit points.
Despite the breach, Reddy delivered a stellar performance in the match against Pakistan, conceding just 19 runs and taking three wickets, earning her the Player of the Match award. India triumphed over Pakistan by six wickets, with Pakistan setting a target of 105 runs which India chased with seven balls and six wickets remaining.
In other highlights, Shafali Verma scored the highest with 32 runs for India, while Jemimah Rodrigues and Captain Harmanpreet Kaur contributed 23 and 29 runs respectively. After a loss by 58 runs in their opening match of the tournament, India bounced back effectively with this victory.
