Iconic South Korean Yoga Instructor Lee Yoo-Joo Dies at 35

SEOUL, South Korea — Lee Yoo-Joo, a renowned South Korean yoga instructor, died on February 18 at the age of 35, her studio, Yogaum, confirmed in an Instagram statement on February 19.
The cause of her death has not been disclosed. In a heartfelt message, Yogaum stated, “We share the sad and sudden news. Lee Yoo-Joo passed away… a space at Yogaum will be open until this Friday for those who wish to say their final goodbyes.” The memorial will be held at the Yogaum Center, located on the 4th floor of the Shinseung Building in Songpa-gu, Wirye.
Lee gained wide recognition for her appearances on the popular South Korean variety show Infinite Challenge, where she instructed the cast members in yoga poses and breathing techniques. This exposure significantly contributed to her rise within the fitness community.
In her final Instagram post, dated just a day before her death, she shared a selfie with the caption “Bye,” prompting speculation among fans about its meaning.
The yoga community and her fans expressed deep sorrow at the news. One follower wrote, “When I was a teenager, Yoo-Joo teacher was like a dream and a star to me… I’m heartbroken to receive such sad news.”
Lee was not only a beloved instructor but also the founder of Yogaum. She had hosted a YouTube channel and authored a wellness guide, showcasing her commitment to fitness and healthy living. Her impact extended beyond her studio, as she formed partnerships with well-known brands like Samsung.
The announcement of her passing follows another tragic loss in the South Korean entertainment industry, as actress Kim Sae-ron was reported dead on February 17 at 24 years old. These incidents have renewed discussions surrounding the mental health and well-being of celebrities in Korea.
As her bereaved family requested a private farewell, many mourners are expected to visit Yogaum to pay their respects. Lee Yoo-Joo is remembered for her vibrant spirit and dedication to her craft, leaving a legacy of inspiration for future generations.
