Burned Remains Investigation Ontario

York Regional Police have confirmed that the burned human remains discovered in Parry Sound belong to Yuk-Ying Anita Mui, a missing real estate agent from Markham, Ontario. Ms. Mui, 56 years old, was reported missing by her family on August 9 after failing to reach them.

The disappearance of Ms. Mui was deemed suspicious, as she regularly communicated with her family. Her white 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 Sport was found approximately eight kilometers away from her home in the area of Finch Avenue and Warden Avenue in Toronto. The police have yet to uncover how her vehicle arrived at that location.

On the day of her disappearance, Ms. Mui was expected to show a property located on Vandorf Sideroad in Stouffville as part of her real estate business. Following her vanishing, on August 12, the Ontario Provincial Police located burned human remains near Avro Arrow Road and Highway 400 in McDougall Township, which is over 200 kilometers from where she was last seen.

The Office of the Chief Coroner positively identified the remains as those of Ms. Mui. During their investigation, police found that the suspects they identified were allegedly in possession of property belonging to her.

Three youths, including a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old, have been charged with offenses including fraud under $5,000 and several firearm-related charges. However, these charges are not directly related to the homicide of Ms. Mui. Investigators consider the youths to be persons of interest in the homicide investigation.

Detective Dave Gill from the York Regional Police’s homicide unit stated that all three young offenders were using Ms. Mui’s credit cards at various locations in the Greater Toronto Area after her disappearance. Two of the reported offenders have been released on bail, while the third remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

The York Regional Police chief, Jim MacSween, indicated that authorities believe Ms. Mui was specifically targeted in this incident. The police are currently searching for a white 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter cargo van, as they suspect Ms. Mui may have been transported in such a vehicle. They urge anyone with information or video surveillance showing the van in the areas of Vandorf Sideroad or Parry Sound between August 9 and August 12 to contact them.
