Imran Khan Sisters Protest Jail Assault

Islamabad, Pakistan — Speculation about former Prime Minister Imran Khan‘s fate intensified after reports that his sisters were assaulted by police while demanding a meeting with him at Adiala Jail. The sisters’ protest coincided with social media claims alleging that Khan, jailed since August 2023, had been killed.

Noreen Niazi, Aleema Khan, and Dr. Uzma Khan were outside the prison when they claimed Punjab police attacked them without provocation. “We peacefully protested over concerns for his health condition. Yet, as the streetlights went out, we faced a brutal and orchestrated assault by police,” Noreen said.

Witnesses reported that many PTI supporters were also present, chanting against Khan’s arrest. Noreen described her experience at the age of 71, stating she was forcefully pulled by her hair and thrown to the ground, suffering visible injuries. She and her sisters alleged police brutality, also claiming that women present were similarly abused.

The protests came after a month-long ban on family visits to Khan, who has been implicated in various corruption cases. Recently, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was denied access to Khan for the seventh time.

In a letter to Punjab police chief Usman Anwar, Khan’s sisters condemned the police’s actions as illegal and threatening to public order. They demanded accountability for the officers involved and highlighted a pattern of excessive force against peaceful protesters in Pakistan.

Following the reported attack, thousands of PTI supporters rallied outside Adiala Jail, increasing pressure on the authorities amidst fears about Khan’s health. His sisters claim he is being held in solitary confinement and have not seen him since their last visit in October 2024. They have expressed concerns that he is being mistreated in jail, facing harsh conditions.

Additionally, rumors have spread on social media regarding his wellbeing, with some unverified reports alleging that Khan has been killed. Although these claims remain unconfirmed, they have generated significant concern among his supporters and the public.

As the situation continues to unfold, Khan’s family maintains their demand for a meeting with him, pushing back against the alleged unlawful restrictions imposed by prison authorities.
