Inaugural Gathering of Club Heyday for Adults with Special Needs Promises a Bright Future
Marshalltown Community College was abuzz with creativity and joy as the inaugural gathering of Club Heyday, a new group catering to area adults with special needs, kicked off under the guidance of organizer Hattie Roth. With a vision of establishing a full-fledged summer camp in the future, Roth, a dedicated service coordinator at Central Iowa Residential Services Inc. (CIRSI), orchestrated a painting project for the 10 participants and their supporting staff.
Reflecting on her decade-long tenure at CIRSI, Roth noted the fluctuations in available clubs and opportunities for individuals with special needs. Recognizing the dearth of adult-focused activities in Marshalltown, Roth identified a gap that Club Heyday aims to fill. While existing organizations like the Arc of Marshall County offer monthly events, Roth envisions Club Heyday evolving into a more frequent gathering to meet the growing demand.
The first meeting centered around painting and assembling wind chimes, with Roth planning to align crafting projects with the seasons. Future sessions will feature tie-dye and summer camp themes, ensuring a dynamic and engaging experience for participants. The attendees enthusiastically voiced their enjoyment and affirmed their attendance at upcoming gatherings.
With aspirations to transition Club Heyday into a monthly initiative, Roth emphasized the volunteer-driven nature of the program. Individuals interested in joining as participants or volunteers can connect through the group’s active Facebook page. The unwavering support of Iowa Valley, particularly the accommodating staff at Marshalltown Community College, has laid a solid foundation for the growth of Club Heyday.
