Indian Air Force Day 2024 Celebrations

India will commemorate Indian Air Force Day on October 8, 2024, marking a significant celebration in the history of the Indian Air Force (IAF) established in 1932. This day honors the dedication and bravery of India’s air force personnel who serve the nation through crucial operations and humanitarian missions.

The day is celebrated with various events such as parades, air shows, and exhibitions which display the strength of the IAF. Initially formed with a limited number of aircraft and personnel supporting the British Royal Air Force, the IAF has since progressed into a robust and potent air power contributing significantly to India’s security and sovereignty.

Besides its primary role in national defense, the IAF is also actively involved in rescue operations during natural disasters and other humanitarian missions. These efforts underline the importance of the air force in safeguarding the nation and aiding citizens in times of need.

The year 2024 marks the 92nd anniversary of the Indian Air Force. The theme chosen for this year is “Bhartiya Vayu Sena – Saksham, Sashakt, Atmanirbhar” which translates to Potent, Powerful, and Self-Reliant. This theme highlights the focus on self-reliance and strength within the Indian Armed Forces.

The celebrations in Chennai featured the aerobatics team ‘Surya Kiran’ performing at Marina Beach. Key figures present at the celebration included Union Minister Rajnath Singh and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who were chief guests at the event. Other dignitaries included Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, Chief Secretary N Muruganandam, Tamil Nadu Ministers, and senior Air Force officers.
