Indian Prairie School District Board Meeting

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — The Indian Prairie School District 204 board approved the academic calendar for the 2026-27 school year during a unanimous vote on Monday. The new schedule aims to offer a seamless flow of days off for students, strategically avoiding any disruption during election week.

During the meeting, administrators pointed out that the calendar avoids an “awkward middle-of-the-week day off” on November 3, 2026, which falls on Election Day. Instead, a day off has been scheduled for November 2, linking it to the preceding day off for parent-teacher conferences. “To us, it made sense not to have them come for Monday and then have the Tuesday off,” said Brad Hillman, assistant superintendent for middle schools.

The fall parent-teacher conferences will occur on Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Monday, November 2, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and again from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. This arrangement aligns with the district’s agreement with the Indian Prairie Education Association, the local teachers’ union.

In a notable change from previous years, the 2026-27 calendar will see school concluding before Memorial Day, unlike recent years when the academic year wrapped up shortly after the late-May holiday.

Other points of interest in the newly approved calendar will be announced in subsequent communications, as the school board continues its efforts to accommodate both educational and community needs.
