Renowned Indian industrialist Ratan Tata has passed away at the age of 86. According to reports, he breathed his last at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, where he had been under medical care following a period of deteriorating health.

In a heartfelt statement, N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, reflected on Tata’s legacy, saying, “We bid farewell to Ratan Naval Tata. His extraordinary leadership has not only shaped the Tata Group but also our nation. For me, he was a mentor and a friend, inspiring others through his example.”

Chandrasekaran added that Tata’s commitment to excellence, integrity, and innovation had left a lasting impact globally under his stewardship. He also highlighted Tata’s philanthropic endeavors, noting that his dedication to societal development, particularly in the fields of education and healthcare, had touched millions of lives and would benefit future generations.

Ratan Tata began his education in Mumbai before attending Bishop Cotton School in Shimla and Riverdale Country School in New York, where he obtained a diploma in 1955. His career with the Tata Group started at Tata Steel in 1961. He furthered his education with business management studies at Harvard Business School in 1975 and earned a degree from Cornell University’s College of Architecture.

Under Tata’s leadership starting in 1991, after India embraced economic liberalization and privatization, the Tata Group extended its influence beyond India, making a global impact. A pivotal moment in his career was the launch of the Indian-made ‘Indica’ car in 1998 by Tata Motors, fulfilling Tata’s vision to produce an affordable car for the masses.

Reflecting on his influence, journalist Girish Kuber remarked in an interview with ABP Maza that Tata was a graceful and humble industrialist whose departure is a great loss to both the nation and the business world. The sentiments were echoed widely, with Tata’s official announcement of his passing acknowledged by N. Chandrasekaran.

Young entrepreneur Arjun Deshpande, also speaking to ABP Maza, recalled the humility and humanity displayed by Ratan Tata throughout his life, describing him as an embodiment of what humanity should be.

Ratan Tata is survived by his younger siblings, including brothers Jimmy and Noel Tata. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations committed to his principles of ethical leadership and social responsibility.
