Injuries Rise at Newbridge Greyhound Stadium in 2025

NEWBRIDGE, Ireland — At least six greyhounds were injured at Newbridge Greyhound Stadium in the first eight months of 2025, according to new figures from the Department of Agriculture.
The data, covering the period from January 1 to August 31, shows that three of those dogs had to be euthanized. Among the incidents, one greyhound suffered a compound fracture of the right humerus on April 25 and was subsequently put down by the track veterinarian.
Another greyhound was euthanized after suffering a fractured hock on August 29. Additional injuries included severe fractures and limb breaks that occurred during both official races and private trial events.
Two more greyhounds suffered injuries during trials in February, March, April, and May, leading to decisions of euthanasia made by their owners’ vets. The issues at Newbridge are not isolated; they reflect a broader concern within greyhound racing.
Nationally, across Greyhound Racing Ireland (GRI)-licensed tracks, 242 greyhounds were reported injured and 138 were killed, either during races or through euthanasia afterwards. The statistics raise significant questions about the safety and treatment of racing greyhounds.
