A tragic incident unfolded at the Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood, Washington, resulting in the death of 13-year-old Jayda Woods-Johnson. The young girl was tragically shot and killed on July 3, 2024, in a horrific act of violence that has shaken the local community.

Authorities revealed that Woods-Johnson was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of a violent altercation between two groups of teenagers near the mall’s food court. Despite having no involvement in the initial dispute, she tragically became a victim of senseless gun violence.

Lynnwood Police Department’s Deputy Chief, Patrick Fagan, expressed deep sorrow over the heartbreaking loss, emphasizing that Woods-Johnson was completely uninvolved in the altercation that led to her untimely death.

Following the shooting, the suspected perpetrator, a 16-year-old male from Edmonds, initially fled the scene. However, he was later turned in to authorities by his mother on the same night. The teenager is now in custody, facing charges of murder in connection with the tragic incident.

Byron Otarola, an employee at a car detailing business within the mall, expressed the prevailing fear and concern among individuals following the shooting, highlighting the urgent need for safety measures to prevent such incidents from reoccurring.
