Inter Miami Vs Toronto Fc

Inter Miami CF stands on the brink of breaking the record for the most points earned in a single Major League Soccer (MLS) regular season following a dramatic last-minute victory over Toronto FC on Saturday at BMO Field. The solitary goal of the match was scored by the team’s forward, who found the net in the 93rd minute with an assist from his teammate, marking his eighth goal of the season.

Despite the importance of this penultimate match, Miami’s head coach, Gerardo "Tata" Martino, opted to rest several regular players and made significant changes to the starting lineup. This strategic rotation comes after Inter Miami was declared the best regular-season team last week. Players such as Suarez entered the game during the latter half yet still managed to influence the match significantly.

Martino commented on the decision, stating, “Playing Suarez and Messi late is something that we defined on Friday. It was logical that after two complete games, as most of them had played, we would make a rotation. It seemed to me that if I made the rotation, I should make it deep … and well, we were able to meet the two objectives: one for the players to have some rest and the other to win the game, which is what we wanted.”

The current MLS record of 73 points was set in 2021, and with one match remaining, Inter Miami is poised to surpass this with a potential total of 74 points. The team will aim to secure this record when they host New England on October 19th, the final day of the regular season at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Inter Miami’s remarkable season also saw the team winning the Supporters' Shield, marking their first silverware since they debuted as an expansion franchise in 2020. Securing this milestone has granted Miami home-field advantage throughout the MLS playoffs.

“Having home-field advantage is amazing, especially with our fans. It’s the perfect situation for us,” noted an Inter Miami defender. The playoffs are set to kick off with Miami hosting the Round One best-of-three game at Chase Stadium on October 25th against the victors of the Eastern Conference Wild Card match.
