Jack Doherty Mclaren Crash

Internet personality Jack Doherty has ignited widespread controversy following an incident in which he crashed his $200,000 McLaren purchase, leading to his banishment from the live-streaming platform Kick. The 21-year-old gained attention not only for the reckless driving that caused the crash but also for his subsequent appeal for financial gifts on TikTok.

The crash occurred on October 5, 2024, in Miami, Florida, during a live stream on Kick, while Doherty was driving in the rain. According to reports, he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a highway railing, with a passenger capturing the entire event on video. This incident led to the injury of the cameraman, filmed bleeding in the passenger seat.

In response to inquiries about the accident, Doherty explained that the McLaren “hydroplaned” due to wet conditions. “I literally hydroplaned,” he defended. “I’m in a McLaren in the pouring rain. What did you guys expect?” He made no comments regarding accusations of texting while driving, which has been speculated as a contributing factor to the crash, according to Dexerto.

Post-crash, Doherty’s actions on social media, particularly his live appeals on TikTok for virtual gifts, have drawn criticism. TikTok’s currency system allows users to purchase virtual coins, which can be exchanged for gifts during live streams. However, it is noted that TikTok withholds 50% of the value of these digital transactions. As one Reddit user pointed out, “1 galaxy costs $20 to send and Jack receives roughly half of that value.”

The incident has sparked heated discussions online, with some questioning Doherty’s appeal and popularity. “What does Jack even provide to his fans?” asked one Redditor, while another described the scenario as “living in the stupidest timeline.” Criticism largely centered on his seeming indifference towards the serious nature of the crash and his ongoing attempts to monetize his audience.

Following the crash, Kick banned Doherty indefinitely, with further confirmation from Adin Ross, co-owner of the platform. Ross stated that the ban could potentially be lifted with a $300,000 payment by Doherty. Despite the controversy, Doherty continued engaging online, posting on X (formerly Twitter) about his accident and his 21st birthday celebrations, showing gratitude for his and his cameraman’s survival.

Doherty, known for his viral stunts and challenges, has built a considerable online following since he began his YouTube channel in 2016 at the age of 12. Current updates and comments from Doherty or his representatives have been sought but remain forthcoming.
