Interstate 75 Kentucky Weather Crashes

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — A section of Interstate 75 has reopened after being closed due to multiple weather-related crashes. The closures occurred late Monday morning at the KentuckyTennessee state line, as reported by Kentucky State Police.

The dangers began when snow fell on the interstate, causing quick and hazardous conditions. Jerry Rains, the emergency management director for Laurel and Whitley Counties, explained that numerous vehicles, including tractor trailers and a trailer loaded with gravel, were involved in the incidents. “It took a long time for it to be cleared up,” Rains remarked.

Many of the crashes occurred near a bridge that officials believe ice formed on before the roadway itself became slick. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet indicated that the problem area was near mile marker 1.8.

By 2:30 PM Monday, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced that the road had been reopened after hours of cleanup. Motorists are urged to remain cautious as they navigate winter weather conditions throughout the region.
