Intruder Shot During Break-In at Las Vegas Country Club

Las Vegas, Nevada – A man was killed early Sunday morning during an alleged break-in at a home within the Canyon Gate Country Club. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. on May 4, 2025, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Homicide detectives are currently investigating the shooting, which left the intruder dead. Clark County District Attorney’s office will review the findings to assess the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Preliminary details about the incident have not been publicly disclosed.
The Clark County coroner’s office later identified the intruder as 46-year-old Gary Havens. The coroner confirmed that Havens died from multiple gunshot wounds, ruling his death a homicide.
A memo sent to residents of Canyon Gate Community Association by the management company stated that the break-in resulted in the death of the alleged intruder, but confirmed that no residents were harmed during the incident. “We can confirm that the situation involved a break-in that resulted in the fatality of the intruder,” the memo read. “Importantly, no residents were harmed, and all members of the household are safe.”
Since the incident, community management has increased security measures and advised residents to take safety precautions, such as ensuring security alarms are activated, and doors and windows are locked. The memo noted, “This event serves as an important reminder of the value of proactive home and neighborhood security.”
