Irondale Police Lt. Mark Meadows Traffic Accident

IRONDALE, Ala. – A veteran Irondale Police lieutenant was struck and killed early Monday while directing traffic during a church event. Lt. Mark Meadows, 60, was hit by a gray 2010 Chevrolet Colorado truck just before 7 a.m. on Grants Mill Road, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

Meadows, a Moody resident, was setting up traffic cones for the Church of the Highlands’ ’21 Days of Prayer’ event when the incident occurred. He was transported to Grandview Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the truck remained at the scene, and ALEA is investigating the crash.

Irondale Mayor James Stewart Jr. described Meadows as a ‘treasured member’ of the city’s family. ‘He was a man of few words but always led by example and embodied the heart of a true public servant,’ Stewart said in a statement. Meadows had served with the Irondale Police Department for decades and was an Army veteran.

Church of the Highlands Senior Pastor Chris Hodges expressed deep sorrow over the loss. ‘Our hearts are heavy beyond measure. Officer Meadows has been with us since the opening of our Grants Mill campus almost 18 years ago. He is family to us,’ Hodges said. The church has offered grief support to the police department and community members.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey also shared her condolences on social media, calling Meadows a ‘true public servant’ and urging prayers for his family and colleagues. Meadows is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
