Washington, D.C. — Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter hosted a series of events marking Israel’s 77th Independence Day on Monday. The main speakers were Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum.

The main reception took place at the ambassador’s residence, drawing a high-profile audience of senior U.S. government officials, members of Congress and the Senate, foreign ambassadors, Jewish community leaders, media representatives, and figures from various sectors.

During the event, wounded soldier Ari Spitz, who lost both legs and a hand during combat in Gaza, shared his powerful story. His encounter moved Special Envoy Witkoff, who embraced him warmly.

“I just met a young man here, his name is Ari Spitz. He gave to the country of Israel both of his legs, his right arm, his thumb, and I wish you blessings. He’s not a victim. It was really my great honor to meet you tonight,” remarked Witkoff.

In his speech, Witkoff expressed warm sentiments, stating, “Of course Independence Day is a time to pause, reflect on the past year, and envision the future. On behalf of President Donald J. Trump and the American people, I extend heartfelt congratulations to the state of Israel on this special day.”

Witkoff also acknowledged the bittersweet nature of the celebration, mentioning that 59 hostages remain held by Hamas. He recalled a moment spent with returning female IDF soldiers singing together as a source of joy amidst challenging times.

Witkoff pledged to work tirelessly for peace and prosperity on behalf of the administration, emphasizing support for the Abraham Accords, which expanded normalization agreements between Israel and several Arab nations during Trump’s first term.

“There are many efforts underway – humanitarian aid initiatives for Gaza, the expansion of the Accords, and discussions on regional challenges like Syria, Lebanon, and Iran,” he said.

In closing, Witkoff highlighted Israel’s resilience and urged unity among its people. “I urge the Israeli people to choose unity over division, vision over disagreement, and hope over despair. When you do, Israel’s future will shine brighter than ever,” he said.

The evening concluded with a moving performance of the national anthems of Israel and the United States by Israeli singer and reserve soldier Noam Buskila.
