JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 23-year-old man from Jacksonville died Sunday morning after crashing into a tree on Interstate 95, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

The incident occurred around 6:40 a.m. as the man was driving northbound and took the exit ramp to Southside Boulevard. FHP reported that his sedan veered off the road and collided with a tree.

Troopers confirmed that the driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, but he succumbed to his injuries from the crash.

The name of the deceased has not been released as officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The crash resulted in the closure of the exit ramp from I-95 North to Southside Boulevard for several hours before the lanes were reopened.
