Jacob Elordi Reveals Acting Hiatus Disrupted by Text From Emerald Fennell

LOS ANGELES, April 18, 2025 — Jacob Elordi was prepared to take a break from acting until director Emerald Fennell reached out to him for a pivotal role in her upcoming adaptation of “Wuthering Heights.” In an interview with IndieWire published on Friday, Elordi recounted the moment that changed his plans.
“I was really lucky. I was going to take a break for a while, and then Emerald just very simply texted me, and you can’t run from that text,” he stated, expressing his excitement about the project.
Elordi, best known for his role in the Netflix series “The Kissing Booth,” will portray Heathcliff, the brooding protagonist of Emily Brontë’s 1847 classic novel. The actor praised his co-star Margot Robbie, who plays Catherine Earnshaw. “She’s incredible in the film; she’s a live wire. I’m so excited for people to see it,” Elordi added. “She’s a beautiful actor, and she gave so, so much.”
Fennell, who recently garnered acclaim for films like “Promising Young Woman” and “Saltburn,” is set to direct, write, and produce the adaptation alongside MRC and Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap. This collaboration marks a continuation of Fennell’s partnership with Robbie and LuckyChap, following their previous successful ventures.
Robbie has lauded Fennell’s directorial abilities, noting in a recent interview with Variety that Fennell can immerse audiences into their world seamlessly. “She’s so masterful at tone and plot; she gets you into it so quickly—you’re just immediately like, ‘I’m in this world,’” Robbie said.
“She gets in your brain and she kind of taps into the most depraved parts of it, so that you’re complicit in the story,” she continued, emphasizing Fennell’s talent for storytelling and engaging viewers.
While reprising the role of Heathcliff represents a shift for Elordi, it also illustrates his willingness to adapt and embrace new challenges in his career. Fans eagerly anticipate the film’s release later this year, after Elordi completes filming on Season 3 of “Euphoria.”
