Jagannath Rath Yatra 2024 Begins With Grandeur In Puri

The annual Jagannath Rath Yatra commenced today in the holy town of Puri, Odisha. This auspicious event takes place every year during the Ashadha month, starting from the second day of the bright fortnight and concluding on the 11th day. The idols of Lord Jagannath, along with Balaram and Subhadra, embark on a magnificent procession from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple.

The Jagannath Rath Yatra is a sacred tradition where devotees from all corners of the country gather to participate. It is believed that partaking in the Yatra and pulling the chariot of the deities brings merit equivalent to performing 100 yagnas.

On this occasion, individuals can send heartfelt wishes to their loved ones, invoking divine blessings from Lord Jagannath for everyone’s well-being.

The first day of the Rath Yatra witnesses a ceremonial entry of the deities Balaram, Subhadra, and Jagannath into the chariots, followed by a grand procession towards the Gundicha Temple. Noteworthy dignitaries like the honorable President, Draupadi Murmu, also seek the divine blessings of Lord Jagannath during this event.

Traditional rituals like ‘Chhera Pahanra’ – the cleaning of the chariot path with a golden broom, signify the purity and sanctity of the Yatra. Devotees, including seekers of blessings, enthusiastically participate in the pulling of Lord Jagannath’s chariot along the designated route.

The magnificent Jagannath Rath Yatra lasts for ten days, culminating in the deities’ return to the Jagannath Temple. The rituals, prayers, and offerings, especially the Mahaprasad (holy food offering), play a significant role in this sacred journey.
