Jake Sullivan And Ajit Doval Phone Call

On Wednesday, October 31, 2024, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan had a phone conversation with his Indian counterpart, Ajit Doval, to discuss several critical issues. The conversation came amidst tensions between India and the U.S. over allegations of India targeting Sikh separatists on American soil.

The two officials focused on regional security developments and emphasized the need for further efforts to ensure stability in the Indo-Pacific region and globally. They also explored opportunities for closer cooperation in key areas such as defence, clean energy supply chains, and emerging technologies.

The discussion highlighted the progress in the bilateral partnership, particularly through the upcoming Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) Intersessional and the Indian Ocean Dialogue. These initiatives are central to bilateral efforts to enhance collaboration in defence, security, semiconductors, AI, and supply chains.

The conversation was also set against the backdrop of recent allegations made by Canada against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, which the U.S. described as “concerning.” The U.S. has stated it will continue to consult with the Canadian government regarding these allegations.

In addition, the U.S. welcomed any reduction in tensions along the India-China border, noting that both countries have taken initial steps to withdraw troops from friction points along the Line of Actual Control. However, the U.S. clarified that it did not play a role in this resolution).
