Jannik Sinner Advances to Final in Vienna After Defeating De Minaur
Vienna, Austria — Jannik Sinner secured his place in the finals of the Vienna Open, defeating Alex de Minaur in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, on Saturday. This victory marks Sinner’s eighth final appearance of the year and his continued ascent in the ATP rankings.
The match showcased Sinner’s dominance on the indoor hard courts, as he has now won 20 consecutive matches in this setting. After going through the earlier rounds of the tournament without facing a break point, Sinner faced a challenge from De Minaur but managed to keep his composure throughout the match.
“I came here quite late to the tournament, tried to take every day in the best possible way, and I’m happy to be here in the final,” Sinner said in a post-match interview. Despite losing his serve twice, he maintained control and focused on his game plan.
De Minaur, known for his quick movement and strong shot-making, struggled against Sinner’s powerful baseline game. Winning only 52 percent of his first serve points, he could not withstand Sinner’s pressure throughout the match. “I was trying to play some good tennis,” Sinner added. “The first set was very physical, so I’m happy that I won in two sets today.”
Before facing Sinner, De Minaur had a challenging journey in the tournament, though their head-to-head record heavily favored Sinner, with an 11-0 lead before the match.
Sinner is chasing his fourth title this season, having previously won at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and Beijing. As the top seed in Vienna, he is also trying to improve his standing in the ATP Year-End No. 1 race, currently led by Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner has not dropped a set in the tournament this year, further emphasizing his strong form on the court.
The Italian champion will compete against either Lorenzo Musetti or Alexander Zverev in the finals on Sunday, looking to add another trophy to his impressive collection.
