Jawaahier Petersen’s Real-Life and On-Screen Pregnancies Align
In an unexpected twist, renowned soap opera actress Jawaahier Petersen finds life paralleling fiction as her character in “Suidooster” reveals a pregnancy, coinciding with Petersen’s own real-life condition. This development has captivated the show’s audience, eagerly watching as her character, Kaashifa Samsodien, announces the news to her husband, Rhafiek Samsodien, portrayed by Irshaad Ally, and her on-screen mother-in-law, Mymoena, played by Jill Levenberg.
Petersen, who is recognized widely as the daughter of the late Cape Town musical legend Taliep Petersen, is currently five months pregnant, with her baby expected to be born in February 2025. In a recent interview with the Daily Voice, she revealed, “It’s actually a funny story about Kaashifa’s pregnancy. Colin Howard, our creative producer, said last year that it was on the cards for 2024. Kaashifa’s pregnancy storyline was written long before my own.”
She further elaborated that on the day she was informed about filming for Kaashifa’s pregnancy scenes, she was oblivious to her own pregnancy. “Right now, Kaashifa is a little further along in her pregnancy than I am as Jawaahier, but now I don’t have to pretend when Kaashifa struggles with morning sickness or tiredness,” she commented on the authenticity it adds to her performance.
As Kaashifa, a character who operates a thriving restaurant, prepares to juggle her career and impending motherhood, Petersen herself is anticipating similar challenges both on and off the screen. “She’s going to have to make another plan with Oos Wes because her hands are going to be full with another big project, a long-held dream of hers – a new gourmet restaurant that’s finally appearing on the horizon. This, like the baby she’s expecting, also becomes a new ‘baby’ for her,” Petersen explained.
Jawaahier Petersen, who holds a Master’s degree in Psychology and has an extensive career working with children, reflected on her parenting journey, saying, “Being a mom, being a parent, comes with a lot of challenges. You’re just winging it, hoping for the best, and doing it with the best intentions.”
“Suidooster” continues to air on weekdays at 6 PM on kykNET, providing its audience with a blend of wholesome and dramatic storylines that mirror real-life scenarios.
