Jay Blades Removed from ‘The Repair Shop’ Tour Amid Legal Issues
Jay Blades, the well-regarded presenter of the BBC‘s ‘The Repair Shop‘, has reportedly been removed from the show’s live theatre tour, following serious allegations related to his personal life. According to a report by The Sun, Blades has been charged with coercive and controlling behavior towards his estranged wife, Lisa Zbozen.
Blades’ alleged misconduct has led to significant professional repercussions. Not only has he been dropped from the Bafta-winning series’ theatre tour, titled ‘Secrets from the Barn‘, but he has also been excluded from related promotional material. The incident has placed his career at a crossroads, with the broadcaster BBC said to be contemplating further actions, including the potential cancellation of the Christmas special for ‘The Repair Shop’.
The accusations against Blades came to public attention after West Mercia Police began an investigation on May 3. A statement from the police confirmed that the 54-year-old, referred to legally as Jason Blades, appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates Court where he was charged and then bailed. He is expected to appear for further proceedings at Worcester Crown Court on October 11.
Blades has been the host of ‘The Repair Shop’ for seven years. His estranged wife, Lisa Zbozen, announced their separation on Instagram in early May, revealing that their marriage of 18 months had ended. Aside from ‘The Repair Shop’, Blades has also been involved in other broadcasting projects, including hosting ‘Money for Nothing‘, ‘Jay Blades’ Home Fix’, and a documentary on learning to read at the age of 51.
Blades was recognized with an MBE in 2021 for his services to craft. However, amidst these personal and professional challenges, the future of his projects remains uncertain, notably the documentary series ‘A Country House Through Time‘, and a second installment of his travel show with Dame Judi Dench, ‘The Odd Couple‘, which has been officially canceled.
