Jelly Roll’s Weight Loss Journey: Nearly 200 Pounds Down and Still Going

Nashville, TN — Country star Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, is on an impressive weight-loss journey, having shed nearly 200 pounds since December 2022. During a live appearance on ‘Big Night Aht’ with host Pat McAfee, the 39-year-old artist shared that he began his transformation at 540 pounds and now weighs 357 pounds.
“I’m gonna lose another 100 pounds and go skydiving with my wife in Sweden, baby!” Jelly Roll exclaimed, celebrating his progress as he trains for a half-marathon. His journey, which he describes as an ’18-month process,’ is not only about losing weight but also improving his overall fitness.
In a previously recorded appearance at a pre-Super Bowl party, Jelly Roll recounted a recent hike at Camelback Mountain in Arizona. He noted, “There is no way that would have been possible beforehand,” highlighting the strides he has made in his physical capabilities.
While the musician has experienced significant success, he admits the journey hasn’t always been easy. Speaking with E! News, he acknowledged the moments of doubt, stating, “It isn’t always the case where I feel focused or positive.” Jelly Roll credits the inspiring stories of fans he meets along the way as his motivation, specifically the individuals who share their own struggles with sobriety or loss.
On his wife Bunnie Xo‘s ‘Dumb Blonde’ podcast, Jelly Roll opened up about the reasons for his public approach to weight loss. “I want to be honest about my struggles with it,” he explained. “I wore it for so long.” He recognizes the shame that can accompany significant weight loss, stating, “People that become as big as I became often hide away until they feel ready to face the world again.”
Jelly Roll aims to inspire others with his journey instead of cloaking it in secrecy. “I wanted to lose it in front of everybody. I’m constantly putting it in the air because I want to bring people along with me,” he stated.
Looking ahead, the artist has set a goal to appear on the cover of ‘Men’s Health’ by March 2026. “That’s my new goal,” he remarked, demonstrating his commitment to continuous improvement in his health and fitness.
