Jenna Coleman Opens Up About Her Recent And Future Roles

Jenna Coleman, known for her roles in Doctor Who, The Sandman, and Wilderness, recently opened up about her past and future roles. The 37-year-old actor, who started her career in Emmerdale as Jasmine Thomas, is now a reliable presence on our screens.

Coleman’s latest film, Jackdaw, showcases her talent as she plays the street-wise leader of an all-girl biker gang. Although her character, Bo, doesn’t have much screen time, she is central to the life of the protagonist, Jack Dawson, portrayed by Oliver Jackson-Cohen. The film is set in the north-east of England, allowing Coleman to showcase her Geordie twang.

Written and directed by Jamie Childs, Jackdaw adds to Coleman’s repertoire of serious and dark characters. However, Coleman expressed a desire for more emotionally liberated and comedic roles. She looks up to actors like Emily Watson, Ruth Wilson, and Andrea Riseborough who have played rich and complex parts.

Despite her talent for drama, Coleman has been telling her agent that she is funny and would love to do more comedy. In The Sandman, although not a comedy, Coleman gets the chance to have fun playing a Cockney exorcist with a Ray Winstone impression. She also recently appeared in the dark comedy-thriller Klokkenluider.

Coleman’s acting career began at Arnold School in Blackpool, where she was taught drama by Colin Snell. The department at Arnold School encouraged students to perform productions on tour and at the Edinburgh Fringe. This early experience paved the way for Coleman’s love and commitment to acting.
