Jennifer Hudson Whitney Houston Amas Tribute

On Sunday night, Jennifer Hudson took to the stage at the American Music Awards (AMAs) to pay tribute to the late singer Whitney Houston. The event marked the 50th anniversary of the AMAs, held on October 6th, and featured a tribute segment led by Hudson, a renowned singer and TV host.

The tribute began with a video montage showcasing Whitney Houston’s significant achievements at the AMAs, an introduction delivered by acclaimed actor Samuel L. Jackson. Following this, Hudson initiated her performance with a rendition of “I Loves You Porgy,” a song Houston famously performed at the 1994 AMAs.

Hudson’s tribute to Houston was her third honoring of “The Voice”. In 2010, during the BET Honors, Hudson performed in the presence of Houston, delivering one of her classic hits. Two years later, in 2012, Hudson performed “I Will Always Love You” at the 54th Grammy Awards, just a day after Houston’s unexpected passing.

Whitney Houston remains a celebrated figure at the AMAs, having won at least 22 awards over the course of her illustrious career. Her legacy was a central theme of the AMAs’ 50th anniversary special, which saw several other artists performing Houston’s iconic hits.
